So, I'm 18.
I've been looking forward to this day ever since I was 16. I'm pretty sure every teenager out there waits very impatiently on THE day where they officially turn to a legal young adult. At least that was what I felt until a few days before my birthday where I realized, I don't give a crap about it.
It is not about being a pessimist but birthdays have never been exciting to me. This year, I had a very peculiar request to some of my very close friends. I requested them NOT to wish me during my birthday and NO surprises. Obviously, being their close friend I knew they wouldn't give a damn to what I requested so I switched my cellphone off an hour before twelve. Brilliant ey' ?
When I switched it back on a couple of hours later, to my surprise I got texts from strangers, acquaintance whom I rarely speak to, international numbers and high school friends whom I never spoken to since the last of school. Instantly, I felt for once that people actually do care. Sincerely from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much :)
And it was on my birthday where it enlightened me that birthdays are meant to be special. So I shut down from the negativity and drank myself to a bottle of wine. The sensation of red wine could not beat Heineken hands down. In the noon, I got woken up by Dad who knocked on my door(which he does everyday because upon returning from Penang, my biological clock got so screwed that I would wake up no less than after 1 in the afternoon). He wished me and wanted to take me out for a birthday lunch. What got me to a shock was when he uttered those three words, "Take your time."
Being a female, getting ready is a vital process before going outdoors. And the boys in the house was never fond of the amount of time I take just to dress myself up. Even five minutes seems like forever to them. When Dad said that, I knew that the indirect translation to "Take your time" is "You've got an hour."
How I wish my birthday could be everyday. Well, who doesn't?
Sum everything up, my birthday was just like any ordinary day well spent with the boys and a few of my close friends in Meeples. No, I didn't get drunk or throw a lavish cocktail party at a club. But I did get my bottle of wine :)
